MSCDA along with other community organizations in Maryland host an annual sickle cell education day in Annapolis. This is where we educate our legislature about the importance of sickle cell disease and how it impacts our lives. We have had success in passing bills in 2018 and 2019

Thank You Sen. Shirley Nathan-Pulliam (Ret.)

Maryland Senator Shirley Nathan-Pulliam (D-Dist. 44 Balt. City and Balt. County), member of the Senate, January 14, 2015 to December 1, 2019. retired December 1, 2019 was a Sickle Cell Champion for the years she served in the Senate and before, the 20 years served in the House of Delegates.

While in the Senate and House, Sen. Nathan-Pulliam was a tireless fighter for persons living with sickle cell disease. Sen. Nathan-Pulliam was instrumental in securing funding the sickle cell infusion center at Johns Hopkins and was the lead sponsor for the sickle cell bills passed in 2018 and 2019.

The sickle cell community in Maryland owes Sen. Nathan-Pulliam a debt of gratitude. Sen. Nathan-Pulliam we will miss your presence in Annapolis and we thank you for all you have done!

Carlton Haywood, Jr., PhD" with his picture. Then say, "On December 31st Maryland and the entire Sickle Cell community lost a warrior and a researcher. Carlton was a friend of MSCDA. Since our earliest days, Carlton volunteered to share his expertise and time in numerous ways. Presenting at forums, sitting on planning committees and many other ways. Carlton was featured in the Baltimore Sun, using his life's experiences to bring awareness to SCD. We greatly appreciate Carlton's many contributions. We offer our sincere condolences to Carlton's family, his many colleagues and friends.
